Memorial Plaque for RAF Bridlington Marine Craft Unit

The plaque unveiling ceremony for the RAF Bridlington Marine Section took place on Sunday 11th May 2025.

The plaque shares the history of the Marine Section and is the memorial for the fallen from Bridlington who are:

  • AC1 George Edwards & AC2 Edward Redding who were sadly killed in WWII bombing raid on 17/07/41 
  • Flt Lt Ken Bell, Cpl Don Ivil and SAC Geoffrey Denson who were on the RAF Pinnace 1389 and sadly drowned in the Amble tragedy on 29/09/69.

RAF Bridlington is the collective name given to various basic RAF Training Schools.  These included No.20 Initial Training Wing, Sea Ditching Training, Air Gunnery Training and Morse Code Signaling Training.  Nearby Sewerby Hall was requisishioned as an RAF Hospital and housed sick personnel from RAF Bridlington, RAF Carnaby, RAF Catfoss and RAF Lissett.
